Making Time and Space for Thought: The Livraria Lello Foundation at Happiness Camp

At an event where everything invites you to do, try, discover, participate, and interact, the Livraria Lello Foundation proposed a completely different experience: to stop.

This was the proposal that the Livraria Lello Foundation and Livraria Lello presented at Happiness Camp 2026, which took place on September 24, through an activation inspired by the ideas of South Korean philosopher Byung-Chul Han and, in particular, his book The Burnout Society.
More than just an appearance at one of the world’s largest events dedicated to well-being and happiness in the professional sphere, the Livraria Lello Foundation’s participation aimed to create space for a question that is becoming increasingly pressing: when was the last time we had time to simply stop and think?

Today, we live surrounded by stimuli. We are expected to respond, produce, decide, learn, communicate, and always be available. In the professional world, this acceleration takes on a particularly evident dimension. The culture of performance, hyperproductivity, and the constant pursuit of efficiency can turn time into a succession of tasks, goals, and constant notifications.
It is precisely this state of constant activity that Byung-Chul Han reflects on in The Burnout Society.

From Happiness Camp to the Garden of Thought

One of the main objectives was to introduce visitors to the booth to the “Jardim do Pensamento,” a project by the Livraria Lello Foundation dedicated to creating a space for engaging with thought, culture, and reflection.
Participating in Happiness Camp provided an opportunity to present this concept to a community particularly connected to issues of human development: professionals in Human Resources, People & Culture, leadership, personal development, and well-being.

Jardim do Pensamento seeks to establish itself as a place where culture, thought, and human development converge—and where reflection can play a significant role within the context of organizations as well. In a professional world increasingly marked by speed and the need for constant adaptation, creating the conditions for thinking can, in and of itself, be a form of care.
The Livraria Lello Foundation’s presence at Happiness Camp 2026 stemmed from an invitation to pause: to slow down, open the book *The Society of Fatigue*, and set aside a few minutes to think and reflect.
Because stop to think can be one of the most important ways to reconnect with ourselves.
