PRESENTATION OF THE BOOK ‘LEONOR TELES: THE QUEEN WHO CHALLENGED A KINGDOM’, BY ISABEL STILWELL
On Tuesday 22 October, at 6.30pm, the Livraria Lello Foundation will take a trip back in time with the presentation of the book ‘Leonor Teles: The Queen Who Challenged a Kingdom’, by Portuguese journalist and author Isabel Stilwell. The event will be moderated by Magda Cruz, creator of the literary podcast ‘Ponto Final, Parágrafo’.
Isabel Stilwell will be appearing for the first time at the Livraria Lello Foundation to present her latest historical novel: ‘Leonor Teles: The Queen Who Defied a Kingdom’. The date, 22 October, is symbolic, as it marks the anniversary of the death of Ferdinand I, King of Portugal, whose death triggered the famous Dynastic Crisis of 1383-1385, which culminated in the rise of the Avis Dynasty.
The setting for the presentation is no coincidence either and couldn't be more iconic: the Monastery of Leça do Balio, the place where Ferdinand and Leonor Teles married and sealed one of the most controversial unions in Portuguese history. This event will be a unique opportunity to revisit the figure of Leonor Teles, an ambitious and often misunderstood woman whose legacy still echoes in the country's history. Isabel Stilwell's narrative will thus offer a new perspective on the ‘cursed’ queen who defied norms and changed Portugal's destiny.
The event will also include a guided tour of the Monastery of Leça do Balio, home to the Livraria Lello Foundation, recently refurbished by architect Álvaro Siza Vieira.
With this in mind, we invite your media to attend the presentation of the book ‘Leonor Teles: The Queen Who Challenged a Kingdom’, by Isabel Stilwell.
