FUNDAÇÃO LIVRARIA LELLO AND STUDIO EDUARDO AIRES PRESENT THE CREATIVE PROCESS BEHIND THE TRANSFORMATION OF THE LEÇA DO BALIO MONASTERY
‘Act the Thought: Designing an Exhibition’ aims to explore the impact of design on contemporary communication. The event takes place on 28 November at 6pm at the Monastery of Leça do Balio. Admission is free.
Open to the public since June this year, the Livraria Lello Foundation, located in the Monastery of Leça do Balio, was a forerunner in the requalification of the space it now calls home. The extensive work that went into this redevelopment was aimed at turning the Monastery of Leça do Balio into a space not only for visitors, but above all for critical reflection.
The current exhibition, entitled ‘Act the Thought’, was designed by Studio Eduardo Aires and it is with this in mind that the Livraria Lello Foundation is hosting an event dedicated to the development of the design project. More than a talk, this will be a practical immersion in the creative process that transformed the Leça do Balio Monastery into a space for critical reflection.
With a special focus on how exhibition design, typography and architecture were strategically used to communicate complex messages in an accessible and impactful way, the event will also explore how these elements intertwine to create a visual narrative that not only informs, but also challenges the public to question their own perceptions in an age of increasing disinformation.
The talk, led by Helena Sofia Silva, creative and communications director at Studio Eduardo Aires, will reveal how design can be a powerful ally in promoting visual literacy and critical thinking, an essential approach at a time when fake news and visual manipulation have become tools of disinformation. The event will also include a guided tour of the Monastery of Leça do Balio focussed on the intersection between design and information in creating experiences that truly impact the visitor.
The event ‘Act the Thought: Designing an Exhibition’ takes place at the Livraria Lello Foundation on 28 November (Thursday) at 18h00. Admission is free, but prior registration is required here.
