LIVRARIA LELLO FOUNDATION HONOURED BY SPA DURING ITS CENTENARY CELEBRATIONS

The Portuguese Society of Authors (SPA) has awarded the Livraria Lello Foundation the Medal of Honour as part of its centenary celebrations. This recognition highlights the Foundation's work in promoting reading, culture, and artistic creation in Portugal.

The ceremony, held in Lisbon, brought together authors, artists, and cultural institutions from across the country, in a symbolic moment for the defence of authorship and freedom of creation. The award granted to the Foundation particularly acknowledges the impact of its first year of activity, notably the rehabilitation and activation of the Monastery of Leça do Balio, and the enhancement of artistic heritage, such as the acquisition of the painting Descent from the Cross by Domingos Sequeira, currently on temporary deposit at the Soares dos Reis National Museum.

“It is an honour to receive this award in the year that SPA celebrates its centenary. This recognition by Portuguese authors reinforces our mission: to promote creation, defend thought, and bring culture closer to people and territories.”
— Rita Marques, President of the Livraria Lello Foundation

With this award, the Foundation adds yet another accolade to the list of honours received in its first year, consolidating its position as a national and European benchmark in the cultural sector.
