OPEN HOUSE PORTO WELCOMED AROUND 600 VISITORS TO THE MONASTERY OF LEÇA DO BALIO
On July 5 and 6, the Monastery of Leça do Balio once again took part in the prestigious Open House Porto, organised by Casa da Arquitectura, welcoming nearly 600 visitors over a weekend dedicated to discovery and architecture.
The free tours were led by Open House Porto volunteers and Livraria Lello Foundation guides and included special moments such as a guided visit with António Choupina, architect and Director of Architecture at the Serralves Foundation, and a visit from the Portuguese Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired – ACAPO. On Saturday, the Monastery also hosted a delegation from the Serralves Advisory Board, further affirming its role as a cultural and architectural landmark in Northern Portugal.
With Álvaro Siza’s Open Sculpture in dialogue with the Romanesque and Gothic architecture of the monument, the space offered a singular experience where past and present converge. This success strengthens the mission of the Livraria Lello Foundation: to empower people to read the world — also from the Monastery of Leça do Balio, a living place open to all.
