People in Motion fills the Monastery of Leça do Balio at the official opening

On September 25, the Monastery of Leça do Balio hosted the inauguration of the People in Motion exhibition, promoted by the Livraria Lello Foundation. The event brought together over 200 guests, including prominent figures from the worlds of culture, academia, politics, and civil society.

The session was attended by Luísa Salgueiro, Mayor of Matosinhos, and António Cunha, President of CCDR-Norte, as well as representatives from various national and international institutions, highlighting the significance and reach of this cultural project.

People in Motion explores the major themes of migration — of people, ideas, and objects — and brings together different artistic languages, with contributions from contemporary writers, visual artists, and photographers. The exhibition is part of the strategy to establish the Monastery of Leça do Balio as a living space for cultural encounter, at the crossroads of the Camino de Santiago, the Contemporary Art Route, the Monasteries Route, and the Writers of the North Route.

The Livraria Lello Foundation extends its gratitude to all those who joined this opening event and reminds the public that the exhibition remains open from Wednesday to Sunday, from 10 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., inviting the community to reflect on borders, identities, and cultural exchange through an immersive and transformative experience.
