“DESCIDA DA CRUZ” EXHIBITED IN PORTO

The Livraria Lello Foundation opens the doors of the Monastery of Leça do Balio on the upcoming 18th to exhibit, for the first time in public, the painting by Domingos Sequeira. "Descida da Cruz" heads north, where it will remain. The National Museum Soares dos Reis is the chosen institution to host the work.

The National Museum Soares dos Reis presents, starting June 1st, in its long-term exhibition, the painting "Descida da Cruz". Before this, the public will have a unique opportunity to see, for the first time, the work of Domingos Sequeira at the Monastery of Leça do Balio, headquarters of the Livraria Lello Foundation.

The visits take place during the afternoon of May 18th, International Museum Day, led by students from FAUP and the House of Architecture. The Monastery of Leça do Balio, headquarters of the Livraria Lello Foundation, reopens its doors to mark the date symbolically, after an extensive requalification work, started in 2021, by the architect Álvaro Siza. With this initiative, the Livraria Lello Foundation provides a unique opportunity to rediscover heritage through Architecture.

After this moment of public enjoyment of the national monument and the painting "Descida da Cruz", the Monastery of Leça do Balio will close again and reopen on June 22nd, with the scheduled programming until the end of the year.

Visitation is free, but requires prior registration.
