The Book Festival that crossed the Atlantic: FLIPORTO debuted in Portugal and returns in 2026!
The International Literary Festival of Pernambuco – FLIPORTO crossed the Atlantic and celebrated, for the first time in Portugal, its 20th anniversary at the Monastery of Leça do Balio. Held in October, in partnership with the Livraria Lello Foundation, this edition was themed “The Book in Digital Times and Literature in the Portuguese Language.” Over four days, writers, artists and thinkers from Portuguese-speaking countries took part in debates, thematic panels, school sessions and book launches, under the curatorship of Avelina Ferraz.
An unprecedented literary celebration
For the first time in Portugal, the International Literary Festival of Pernambuco – FLIPORTO crossed the Atlantic to celebrate literature and the Portuguese language at the Monastery of Leça do Balio.
The Book in Digital Times
Under the theme “The Book in Digital Times and Literature in the Portuguese Language,” FLIPORTO reaffirmed itself as one of the most relevant literary festivals in the Lusophone world, fostering encounters between authors, thinkers, artists and readers around the written word and new forms of cultural creation and engagement.
Guerra Junqueiro Literary Prize
On the opening day, the Guerra Junqueiro Literary Prize 2024 was awarded to the writer Dulce Maria Cardoso, with her work presented by researcher Margarida Calafate Ribeiro.
During the festival, the Guerra Junqueiro Lusophony Prize 2024 was also presented, honouring the Angolan writer Amélia Dalomba, with a presentation by Professor Hermenegildo Seca.
